BIRDIE Restaurant
STUDIO C8 used minimal pops of color among a dark backdrop of minimal materials including ironwork to look like a birdcage at BIRDIE Restaurant.
Birdie is a traditional Japanese yakitori dining for the residents and city workers within the area, located at H Code in Central Hong Kong beside the famous upper Pottinger Street. Studio C8 was approached by their long standing client P.O.N to make a fresh interior concept for the new brand. Since they relocated the first restaurant, Studio C8 has worked together to design their projects.
The design of Birdie was excluded the typical Japanese interior style. The design team challenged to put a new image into the common Japanese food dining. Taking inspiration from an atelier, it was designed in the atelier apartments in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. Black-painted panel walls and a limited palette of materials were introduced to create a simple backdrop for the space. The ornamental ironwork, which represents a birdcage, brings a unique impression into the interior. The overall design scheme holds a warm and a calm ambience.
