Restaurant Kappeli
Taking inspiration from the building’s original architecture and placing an emphasis on its unique cultural history was the foundation for the renovations that began in 2021, for which Fyra was responsible for the interior design concept.
Located in the very heart of Helsinki, restaurant Kappeli has served as a meeting place for Finnish poets, writers, and artists since its opening in 1867. The City Museum of Helsinki acted as a partner in the renovation of the protected property.
During the process all the extra layers that had developed over time were removed and the space was adorned with a composed elegance that complemented its original character. Alongside fixed furniture a unique, quietly decorative Kappeli chair was designed to be used in both the restaurant and the café part of the premises.
Art has played a pivotal role at Kappeli throughout its history, a role that was made even more significant during the renovation by repositioning of the art pieces. As well as emphasizing art, the lighting design sought to draw attention to the unique details of historic architecture. The restored Kappeli reflects the heritage and history of the property in a splendid, welcoming setting.
