Ombra Wine Bar
Ombra Wine Bar’s design draws inspiration from the wine merchants of Venice, with custom metal screens creating shadow-play and lighting creating a whimsical yet dark ambiance by Clockwork Architecture + Design.
Ombra Wine Bar brings fresh small plates to the Kansas City food scene. The design team’s inspiration stemmed from the restaurant’s name itself. ‘Ombra’, refers to the wine merchants of Venice Italy that would move their wine stands to stay in the shadow ‘ombra’ of the buildings surrounding. Custom metal screens were designed to create shadow-play at every turn and lighting was studied to ensure it provided the whimsical yet dark feel of an afternoon shadow.
Ombra may be a “small plates” restaurant, but it has made a big impact on the shops at Briarcliff Village. Ombra has transformed Briarcliff by providing this community with a new upscale wine + dine experience. Undergoing a full renovation and transformed from a previously unleased retail space, the design team set out to create a design-forward approach to a chef’s kitchen to highlight this husband-wife’s delicious food offerings. From intimately lit booths to a beautiful wrap-around bar focused on a custom wine-display, diners can tailor their experience and pair their encounters with delicious food and wine offerings.
