  • As the first building in Calgary to receive approval under the City’s “Exceptional Design” standards, The Dorian Hotel raises the bar for hospitality architecture in the city. A collaborative effort between GGA and PBA Land Development, this 27-storey, dual-brand tower redefines luxury accommodation in Alberta’s cultural capital.

The hotel’s distinctive exterior is defined by a dramatic curtain wall system, featuring a custom frit pattern on the north elevation, and a striking two-storey weathered steel wraparound that anchors the main entrance. Behind its façade, The Dorian offers two unique guest experiences: Courtyard by Marriott, a refined and restful stay for visitors exploring Calgary’s arts and culture scene, and Autograph Collection, a bespoke, story-driven escape inspired by the life and works of Oscar Wilde.

With 308 guest rooms—175 in Courtyard and 133 in Autograph—the hotel caters to a wide spectrum of travelers. Literary and aesthetic themes drawn from Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray influence the interior design throughout, merging Victorian-era romance with Art Deco flourishes. Each room and floor immerses guests in a world of layered storytelling and curated detail.

Amenities include The Wilde, a rooftop restaurant and lounge perched on the 27th floor, Prologue Café at street level, and Bistro Novelle on the second floor. A conference center, fitness facility, and a four-level underground parkade round out the offering, making the hotel a true destination for both leisure and business travel.

The project’s success lies not only in its design but also in its city-building impact. In meeting the rigorous requirements of Calgary’s “Exceptional Design” criteria—including pedestrian-first infrastructure, enhanced public realm features, and refined urban integration—the development team worked closely with city departments to achieve a carefully balanced outcome that benefits both guests and the broader community.

Recognized nationally and internationally, The Dorian received a coveted Michelin ‘One Key’ distinction in 2024—an honor shared by only three other hotels in Alberta—further solidifying its place as one of Canada’s most exceptional hospitality destinations.
