The Cove Eleuthera

BAR Architects & Interiors rejuvenated The Cove Eleuthera in the Bahamas, harmonizing contemporary luxury with the island’s natural beauty through a meticulous renovation of its boutique accommodations and signature dining experiences.

  • Enlisted to reimagine a secluded resort on the northern tip of the Bahamian island of Eleuthera, BAR Architects & Interiors leaned into the boutique hotel’s picturesque setting for its extensive renovation. Nestled between two private white sand coves, against a backdrop of limestone cliffs and turquoise waters, the updated 40-acre, 22-room Cove Eleuthera emanates an understated luxury with its fresh, breezy design. Rooted in a palette of soft neutrals and pale teak, soothing stone accents, and natural fiber textiles, the multi-year, multimillion-dollar renovation refreshed the property’s bungalow suites and villas, added four new bungalow suites and a two-bedroom villa, and transformed its signature restaurant.

The architecture of the suites and villas was preserved, but BAR Interiors completely remodeled the interiors, adding thoughtful touches and quiet indulgences. The elegantly designed rooms feature crisp white, grooved-board walls and ceilings, stone floors with over-sized custom rugs, grass cloth-covered headboards and sconces, and the occasional azure-blue accent. Streamlined silhouettes and built-ins are paired with handcrafted furnishings and custom art pieces apropos of the setting. Big sliding glass doors with wooden louvers frame idyllic views, which are further emphasized by the tall, angled ceilings. Deep soaking tubs, oversized showers, and well-appointed bathrooms, in calming cream tones and wooden hues, create a spa-like experience. Other amenities include king-sized beds with 500-thread-count linens, private decks, luxurious outdoor showers, and Caribbean views. Swaying palms and other tropical fauna envelope each room, creating a tranquil oasis.

BAR Interiors also revitalized the landmark Freedom Restaurant and Sushi Bar with a laidback yet sophisticated beach club feel. Huge windows overlook unencumbered seaside views, pulling in endless, gentle breezes. At the center, is the sushi bar that allows for a curated selection in a casual setting atop a marbled waterfall island. Everything is light and airy. Modern lines are balanced with sinuous forms. Scalloped-back dining chairs, tulip cocktail tables, raffia-spooled stools, and half-moon banquettes are adorned in shades of sandy taupe, pale blue, and silvery gray. Teak wood tables, chairs, ceilings, and sunscreens take on an elevated feel for a truly relaxed vibe.

The unhurried, gracious pace is carried throughout the property, culminating in the quietly sprawling, windswept lawn that offers panoramas of the crystalline sea where time seems to stand still. Without losing its air of tranquility, the changes at The Cove are respectful of its natural surroundings, providing a paradise get-away that’s akin to staying on your own private island.

Renovations for The Cove began August, 2022 and were completed November 2024. They include interior renovations and design to 14 bungalow suites, three villas, four new bungalow suites, two new 2-bedroom villas, as well as the re-envisioned 9,000-sf Freedom Restaurant and Sushi Bar. Completing the renovations, in 2024, was the final design phase that encompassed the main infinity pool terrace, dining/lounge terraces, a fire pit, and the beach coves furnishings, along with new landscaping and pathways that guide guests past swaying palms and native vegetation.
