At the intersection of irreverent chic and bold sophistication in the heart of Manhattan, Sofitel New York harmoniously blends French savoir-faire and New York dynamism – two cultural forces that define the very essence of this vibrant metropolis.

Guided by the influence of L’Art Décoratif in Paris and New York, HBA San Francisco drew inspiration from architectural grandeur and the enduring impact of modern French fashion and art movements to shape the hotel’s narrative. In an interplay of contrasts, sleek modernity meets classic Parisian elegance through carefully curated elements that feel both intimate and grand.

Art Deco and Art Moderne motifs combine with intricate European detailing and luxurious materials to establish a sense of refined opulence. Tones of black, gray, white and gold form a foundational palette, while vivid artwork and metallic accents punctuate the interiors with visual drama.

    Arrival Experience
A stunning interpretation of Art Deco style greets guests upon arrival, setting the tone for the experience within. Reimagined in monochromatic stone and wood, the concierge and bell desks frame the entrance in symmetrical form, grounding the entry with warmth and tactility.

Open metal screens intuitively guide guests into the foyer, where a study in contrast and composition unfolds. A coffered ceiling with integrated lighting acts as a sculptural canopy overhead, while white marble flooring and deep green walls set the tone of quiet grandeur. Crisp white paneling introduces a rhythmic, neoclassical balance.

Furnishings feel both collected and intentional, echoing the dialogue of the eras through plush seating in flowing and streamlined forms, marbled surfaces, polished metals, and patterned upholstery. Artwork infuses personality and energy, transforming the space into both a retreat and a statement.

    Le Grand Escalier & Reception
A cascading Lasvit chandelier at the grand stair immerses guests in ballet’s artistic poetry. Illuminated from within, each of the slumped glass petals appears to dance with fluidity, casting a gentle glow and shifting patterns of light and shadow.

In the foyer reception, ombre burnished brass at the pair of reception desks and a backlit metal screen extend a radiant welcome. Tailored silhouettes nod to fashion’s precision, while a ribbon-like chandelier sweeps overhead in a graceful gesture of movement. A black-and-white geometric rug anchors the space, complemented by pleated floor lamps with subtle sartorial flair.

    Meetings & Event Spaces
At the top of the grand stair awaits a moment of surprise and delight, where guests discover a glowing pre-function bar with brass detailing and an antique mirrored backdrop. Custom carpets underfoot weave black, white, and gold into patterns of repetition inspired by Parisian haute couture.

The Grand Paris Ballroom welcomes gatherings for all occasions beneath a central chandelier whose black-trimmed drum shades lend tailored refinement while gold-lined interiors radiate warmth. A sculptural wall relief references New York’s iconic Art Deco skyline, complemented by shimmering moiré wallcoverings, marble-and-gold sconces, and opulent drapery.

    Guest Rooms & Suites
Guest rooms reveal a skillful synthesis of French sophistication and contemporary comfort. Classic French-inspired wall paneling provides an elegant architectural foundation for bold accents, while refined molding speaks to European craftsmanship.

The headboard wall serves as a striking focal point with its upholstered panel, striped wood backing, and integrated brass sconces. An adjacent smoked glass mirror adds depth and a touch of mystique. Rich wood case goods with lacquered finishes and bronze detailing contribute cultivated contrast, while shades of pink and red enliven the neutral palette. Woven textiles and carpeting offer softness reminiscent of a luxurious knitted sweater.

Suites evolve this language into the feel of a Parisian pied-à-terre in more saturated tones, where every element contributes to an atmosphere of cultured luxury. Custom furnishings blur the line between art and utility, including a minibar cabinet in burgundy lacquer with geometric mirrored paneling.

The Penthouse Suite Manhattan Skyline View
HBA San Francisco’s design reaches its crescendo at the 28th-floor Penthouse. An exquisite headboard wall anchors the primary bedroom with serene elegance, adorned by jewelry-like pendants suspended at the bedside.

The bathroom transforms daily rituals into indulgent experiences through a masterful contrast of marble stone and brass detailing. A custom black marble soaking tub commands attention, while the shower becomes a jewel box encased in reeded glass.

Gently curved seating, layered lighting, and geometric motifs woven throughout the living area echo the dimensional beauty of Art Deco through a modern lens. The dining salon presents an intimate yet grand setting for entertaining with a sleek black wood table in Art Moderne form, crowned by a luminous custom chandelier.

    Bar & Bistro
The art of conversation and culinary excellence converge in the design of Social 45 Bar & Bistro, where spaces transition seamlessly from lively bar to refined bistro. Curved brass archways and emerald green flooring exude Deco delight, while illuminated bottle displays highlight the golden library of spirits, and an assemblage of seating encourages both intimacy and conviviality.
