JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort & Spa
MONOGRAM at BBGM drew inspiration from the prehistoric Hohokam culture, with hand-crafted elements, and references to the surrounding desert and native plants in the realization of the JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort & Spa in Scottsdale.
MONOGRAM drew inspiration from the prehistoric Hohokam culture, with hand-crafted elements, and references to the surrounding desert, native plants, and Camelback Mountain. As guests walk into the resort, they are greeted by an impressive collage of artwork curated from Executive Chairman Bill Marriott Jr.’s own collection of oil paintings and prints. The property is recognized as a historic favorite of the Marriott Family and is the first location to house artwork from Marriott’s personal collection.
The Paradise Ballroom consists of a 15,000-square-foot ballroom and associated pre-function space. The design team pulled inspiration from the native ocotillo plant and explored ways to incorporate its playfulness into the overall style of the space. The resulting design features a desert palette with modern, earthy furniture and fixtures that complement the desert charm.
Transitions throughout the various areas of the hotel occur seamlessly. The Paradise Ballroom connects to the existing Arizona Ballroom with a fresh take on the indoor and outdoor experiences. Additionally, a glass wall connects the Paradise Ballroom and the outdoor event space, yielding an impressive backdrop of the mountains and providing guests with a unique and authentic Paradise Valley experience. Folding accordion doors connect the ballrooms to the inside pre-function spaces.
The event spaces were reinvigorated with contemporary, open floor plans and curated art displays, while upholding the Marriott brand’s high-end aesthetic and atmosphere. Ceiling-hung artwork evokes mountain forms in a copper finish and linear layers that make the lighting seem natural. Contemporary decorative fixtures brighten areas during the day and create a feeling of intimacy at night. In the large prefunction corridor, a dramatic features wall with striking sculptures defines the prefunction seating with a lounge-like feel, creating an intimate and inviting atmosphere.
MONOGRAM implemented the most up-to-date technology, breakout spaces, and flexible meeting areas throughout creating a modern, yet equally welcoming feel. Hard surface flooring covers a majority of the renovation, but seating areas are specifically delineated by the use of native inspired rugs. These rugs give the designated seating sections a more residential look through the use of simple colors and patterns.
This expansion marks one of several projects MONOGRAM has worked on with the JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort & Spa. This collaboration will continue throughout the summer as MONOGRAM renovates the guest rooms and suites.
