Buena Vida Restaurant

Vaissié Studio was tasked with designing the Buena Vida Restaurant to reflect the essence of a journey through the Caribbean lifestyle.

  • area / size 2,476 sqft
  • Year 2019
  • Location Cartagena, Colombia,
  • Type Restaurant,
  • In this three-story colonial house located in the heart of the old walled city of Cartagena, we had to bring to life a mix of colourful and iconic tropical elements in a unique and balanced way, and create iconic details to highlight the Caribbean good life experience, and share it with local and foreign visitors.

In terms of space layout, we had to adapt a 400 years Colonial house for a restaurant use.

This house was originally a commercial space of one floor plus small mezzanine. We had to maximize the square meters to accomplish the operational needs, in order to create a particular and unique atmosphere in each floor. The equilibrated use of colours and textures to avoid the visual saturation of the interior design, was also one of our challenges.

As a result we obtained a warm and vivid exotic space, where clients can interact in a tropical layback environment. Stunning details catch the eyes of everyone, such as this pink door on a wall covered with handmade teal tiles. Wooden furniture, natural stone finishes, colourful fabrics, pendant and wall lightings, and handcrafted decoration, custom-designed, and made by local artisans, give a real authenticity and merge with the gastronomic experience.
