Mona Restaurant

DA bureau wanted to preserve the successful architectural elements of the former restaurant and at the same time to change the mood of Mona Restaurant in the interior by making it more comfortable, intimate and premium.

  • Mona Restaurant is a renovation of Syrnik Restaurant on Kamennoostrovsky Avenue in Saint Petersburg.

The main task was to change the perception of the restaurant as a place designed specifically for breakfasts and make it attractive both in the afternoon and in the evening. At the same time, the cuisine also changed to a more daily European style.

The heart of Mona is an open kitchen with a pizza oven. Warm subdued light penetrates the hall through the glass petals hanging over it and creates a comfortable and at the same time relaxed atmosphere. The kitchen is continued with a bar counter creating the centre of the restaurant. About 60 glass and copper petals were carved based on our sketches for their decoration.

We completely changed the style of seating in the halls by making it more comfortable and detached. There are large, cosy sofas along the aisles with decorative copper backs. Also, we placed high tables along the kitchen for visitors to observe the work of the cooks.

The restaurant perimeter is in neutral and light colours to direct visitors’ attention to the central object – open kitchen with a petal structure hanging over it.

Thus, during the day, the restaurant is perfectly suited for breakfast and lunch. Whereas in the evening, the warm and subdued light directed at the tables creates a cosy evening atmosphere.
