Muka & Fartuk Cafe

STUDIO SHOO used warm tones of plaster, smooth surfaces of furniture and rough walls to create a place for new impressions and experiences that guests would want to share with others at Muka & Fartuk in Yoshkar-Ola.

  • area / size 1,076 sqft
  • Year 2021
  • Location Yoshkar-Ola, Russia,
  • Muka & Fartuk is a cozy cafe with breakfasts, lunches, freshly made coffee and at the same time a shop is offering a wide choice of sourdough breads, pastries, cakes and puff pastries.

The basis of Muka & Fartuk’s concept is the memories associated with bread from childhood or adolescence: to bite off the edge of a fresh loaf while running back home;the very first taste of a croissant, freshly baked grandma’s pies in the village. From all these pleasant emotions, the main slogan of the M & F was created – the happiest stories about bread. After all, everyone has their own, and they are certainly delighted.

Our clients Nastya Antsiferova and Zhenya Druzhkov are guys who are not afraid to take a risk and implement a new concept in the regions of Russia, – says the founder of STUDIO SHOO Shushana Khachatryan. This is our third joint project.

Thinking about the concept of the interior, we wanted to pay attention to the textures, factures and color tone. We were inspired by the close-ups of the textures of artisan bread – mesmerizing lines along which the bread cracked, a crispy crust, a milky white color of the flesh.

The interior space of the cafe was divided into two zones with the help of a wall, in which openings were made in the form of loaves of bread – a little awkward and sloping arches. They also have built-in showcases for desserts, transparent on both sides.

Through the arches you can see a workshop with ovens, proofers and bread-making equipment.

At the entrance, we set up a landing for a quick «snack», where you can enjoy your morning croissant and the city view from the window.

A room with a cozy low seating position – a round table for companies, a comfortable soft sofa and tables designed according to the sketches of the architects.

The walls are finished with silk textured plaster.

The pieces of furniture were created by the architects specifically for Muka & Fartuk, for example, the round base of the table at the entrance, was inspired by baguettes wrapped in paper bags. So, the shape of the back of the sofa is influenced by Savoiardi cookies for tiramisu, and the texture of the hanging light is inspired by the curves of cracked bread after baking.
