  • Beloved American restaurant, bar, and beer garden TAKODA brings its community-driven presence from the original location in Shaw to the Navy Yard neighborhood, opened in early June of 2022. Founded by Ryan Seelbach, TAKODA embodies its name, meaning “friend to all,” through its signature service and atmosphere. Washington, D.C.-based firm //3877 led the architecture and interior design of the space, utilizing their hyper-local insight to establish the Navy Yard location as a community gathering place for visitors and locals alike.

Located in a new building adjacent to Nationals Park, TAKODA is the latest staple to join the booming development of the area. With an elevated bar feel, TAKODA provides the perfect backdrop for any occasion, whether visiting with family before a game, venturing in for a laid-back date, or stopping by for a post-game beer.

TAKODA Navy Yard aims to maintain the original essence of the brand through a modern lens utilizing fresh materials and architectural features. The new location serves as a second home for TAKODA Shaw, introducing its signature style to a fresh audience of soon-to-be regulars and newcomers. Upon entering, guests are immersed in the central element of the space: the restaurant-level bar, designed to provide 360-degree access for each patron. Igniting the interior with an exciting social energy, the bar features comfortable wood seats for guests to mingle and relax. An elegant bar top exudes a warm, subtle veining paired with a walnut wood tambour bar face that complements the environment’s refined aesthetic.

Further into the dining room, guests are greeted with a palette of walnut wood, deep blues, and lush greens that emulate the upscale experience. Plush banquette seating line the walls, providing a diverse array of perspectives and experiences for each patron’s preferences and style. Primary materials, including concrete, wood, and black metal enhance the subtle industrial feel of the space, nodding to a familiar touch of the TAKODA brand. Upstairs, the Navy Yard location reimagines the traditional outdoor beer garden experience through elevated, yet approachable design elements. The large bar’s sleek countertop is infused with marble and crystalline streaks while mosaic tile peppers fun, colorful elements into the bar face. //3877 infused the outdoor space with pops of blue balanced by natural hues of green, establishing a direct connection to the outdoors. The terrace provides an array of bar and high-top seating options for individuals and small-to-large groups. Designed to be enjoyed among great company, the beer garden’s upscale feel adds a new dimension to the communal experience.

The new location exudes a sense of togetherness that was made possible through //3877’s collaboration with Potomac Construction Services, MGV Consulting Structural Engineers, Potomac Energy Group, and the Design Difference. TAKODA Navy Yard’s contemporary twist on the established brand ushers in a new era for the restaurant, grounded by a passion for bringing the community together over good drinks and good times.
