Voco Hotel, Xi’An
Steven Leach Group transformed an existing hotel into the distinctive five-star Voco Hotel, Xi’An with design elements inspired by the Silk Road’s deserts and mountains.
In its rich history and culture, inspired by the deserts and mountains enroute the Silk Road, nature’s artwork gave much to SL+A HOTELS to extract from. Today Xian is a vibrant & modern city, and this 25-storey hotel presents herself a place to highlight these elements in her makeover.
Xi’an Jinpan Hotel is in the Economic Development Zone of Xi’an City, opposite the Xi’an Municipal Government, a domestic brand five-star hotel. SLA HOTELS received this project, and the key is to transform a five-star hotel with very good conditions, through ingenious means into a distinctive five-star voco hotel, an IHG brand.
The design team meticulously studied the existing design elements of bright lights and metal textures. We extended the existing element of starry sky and added the vast natural features of desert dune lines interweaves with artistic totems, creating an appealing and exciting hotel.
The areas that received substantial change in the design, furnishings and colours are the lobby, reception area, lobby lounge, all-day-dining, lounge bar, executive lounge, gym, lift lobby, lift car and some modification to the guestrooms. The design elements in form and function reflects the characteristics of the voco brand.
A textured wall inspired by desert dunes is the reception feature wall with the illumination of downlights casts a captivating light and shadow effect that adds dimension to the space. Like an oasis in the desert, the adjacent lobby bar is a placed with comfortable seats for guests to relax with a drink; colour tones are kept warm and inviting.
In the heart of the concept, the overall design has tension and harmony between neutral tones and the bold use of voco brand colors, artwork and decoration pieces. Simultaneously all elements bring guests a refreshing grin of appreciation, a feel of warmth and a sense of vitality from the modern interiors of this hotel.
The voco guestrooms are indulged with modern styled furniture that includes an inviting chaise longue, contemporary artwork together with an exclusive voco owl mascot pillow. Collectively forming a modern and relaxing aesthetic anchored by a modest palette of light wood tone and the distinctive voco blue.
