Moxy Omaha
Moxy Omaha, designed by The Society, captures heartland America’s essence with a vibrant interior celebrating Midwest culture; custom-made details ensure a cohesive, authentic experience reflecting the spirit of the area.
Moxy Omaha is a vibrant six-floor hotel nestled in the heart of the Old Market Entertainment District in Omaha, Nebraska, designed to capture the essence of heartland America and celebrate the rich history and culture of the Midwest. The client, Hawkeye Hotels, entrusted the interiors-led hospitality design collective, The Society, with the task of revitalizing the area and providing a distinctive stay for visitors. The Society served as the interior designer for all interior spaces, such as public spaces and all 113 guest rooms, and collaborated closely with the architectural firm Base4 on the project.
The chosen location for Moxy Omaha was no accident; it stands proudly near the Old Market Entertainment District, a bustling neighborhood filled with restaurants, bars, live music, art galleries, and retail shops. The Society’s aim was to integrate the energy and character of this vibrant district into the very fabric of the hotel.
Inspiration for Moxy Omaha was drawn from the locale and its history. Omaha’s rich heritage, encompassing industrial railroads, expansive farmland, and the rustic lifestyle of the plains, became the driving force behind the design. The décor, artwork, and other design features throughout the hotel celebrate Nebraska’s history and midwestern culture.
Upon entering Moxy Omaha, guests are greeted by a captivating bar and entryway reminiscent of a train station. Industrial steel and worn wood, reminiscent of railroad tracks, create a unique atmosphere that combines urban and pastoral elements. The lobby features playful tire swings, inviting guests to relive cherished childhood memories. Vibrant murals adorn the walls, showcasing local icons such as the football team, railroads, and outdoor recreation.
Throughout the hotel, design elements pay homage to the Midwestern way of life. Posters featuring farm fixtures like tractors, pigs, and cows add a touch of whimsy, and mounted shovels outside elevator entrances serve as playful substitutes for conventional floor numbers.
Materials carefully selected for the entry lobby include brick, concrete, and blackened steel, creating an industrial aesthetic. Distressed leather adds a touch of comfort and warmth to the space. The color palette, dominated by wood brown, concrete grey, and brick red, further enhances the industrial design elements that define Moxy Omaha.
Every detail of the hotel’s design was custom-made, ensuring a cohesive and authentic experience. From the décor to the furniture, nothing was sourced off the shelf. Each element was tailored to Moxy Omaha’s design narrative, establishing a unique identity that reflects the spirit of the heartland.
On the cobblestone streets of Omaha’s historic Old Market district, Moxy Omaha stands as a playful interpretation of urban and pastoral life. Charming red brick walls adorned with large-scale murals create a striking contrast with worn wood and metal, evoking the spirit of industrial railroads. Guests can gather by the fireplace for a friendly game or indulge in childhood nostalgia on the inviting tire swings.
The Society is proud to have contributed to the revitalization of the Old Market district and to have created an unforgettable experience that combines contemporary hospitality with the timeless charm of the Midwest.
