A luxe rooftop bar offering elegance by day, liveliness by night
Powerful, majestic, and elegant…these words immediately come to mind on entering Whiskers, a high-energy rooftop bar perched on Grand View High Street in Gurugram. Designed to cater to the area’s elite—business magnates, professionals, and socialites—Whiskers offers an urban alcove where luxury meets functionality.
Crafting a space like Whiskers posed a unique challenge, as the venue needed to evolve with the time of day, transitioning from a refined brunch atmosphere to a lively evening destination. Meeting this challenge head-on, Sync Design Studio balances the energy and demands of its multifaceted clientele with grace.
From the entrance, the space exudes calm refinement. The curvilinear waiting bench elegantly wraps around an imported bonsai, symbolizing harmony and balance, setting the tone for a venue that smoothly transitions from intimate meetings to high-energy celebrations.
The L-shaped layout is subtly divided by ceiling elements, guiding guests through distinct zones without overwhelming the senses. Cane lighting fixtures hang gracefully amid hay reeds and lush foliage, leading toward the sushi and pizza bar, where a live kitchen creates an intimate culinary experience. A tucked-away niche offers a secluded spot for private gatherings.
Moving deeper, the ambiance shifts. Cascading metal chain hangings lead the eye toward the bar’s entrée—the island bar counter. While the ceiling captivates with intricate design, the brass-inlaid dewatered concrete flooring provides a subtle yet striking counterbalance.
Accommodating the client’s vision for Sufi nights, Sync Design Studio created an ornate corner dedicated to live ghazal performances, highlighting the venue’s adaptability. Seating arrangements, ranging from high tables and bar stools to low, intimate seating, ensure that the space accommodates various group sizes and moods.
The crowning feature is the expansive terraces, offering a 270-degree view of the cityscape. Pivoted at a height of three stories, these canopies—adorned with creepers and color-changing lights—change the personality of the space throughout the day. In favorable weather, glass partitions can be fully opened, merging the indoor and outdoor spaces into one seamless setting.
There’s a certain playfulness in this juxtaposition, as these fierce creatures are dressed for high society but ready to let loose, mirroring the bar’s own blend of formality and freedom. It’s a space where patrons can shift from formal business meetings to casual nights out, all within the same walls.
The palette—green textured walls, brown upholstery, and grey flooring accented with brass and gold—creates a balance between luxury and serenity of nature, resulting in a sophisticated yet grounded atmosphere.
Every design element, every transition, every detail is intentional and plated to perfection, making it a prime destination for an official lunch or a cocktail-fuelled night out.
