Mountain-Sea Chronicles Restaurant
Eastern aesthetic design by FUNUN LAB in Yantai, China merges nature and artistry, creating a dining space that immerses diners in poetic landscapes, blurring indoor-outdoor boundaries with dynamic elements.
“To meet the mountains, to gaze at the sea, to connect with others, to rediscover oneself.” As commercial dining spaces evolve, the focus shifts to emotional and immersive experiences.
FUNUN LAB, invited by [Mountain-Sea Chronicles · Oriental Banquet], crafts a curatorial-style dining journey inspired by poetic landscapes. The space unfolds like a flowing canvas, where imagination shapes each scene, bridging space, senses, and emotions. Here, diners embark on a narrative that transcends boundaries.
Eastern aesthetics are not just about tradition but about distilling essence. The banquet embodies reverence for nature’s abundance, transforming the dining experience into an artistic expression of flow and refinement. Mountains provide a backdrop, seas guide exploration, and elements from nature merge in a space that elevates Eastern beauty beyond consumerist trends.
Beside Mountains and Seas: A Flowing Elegance
Chinese culture finds poetry in nature, shaping an aesthetic that is subtle yet boundless. The designer translates this philosophy into a dynamic interplay of movement and stillness, blurring boundaries between indoors and out. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame shifting landscapes, while curved walls and fluid textures evoke the rhythm of waves.
At the heart of the space, an open kitchen and a towering flame oven resemble a mystical furnace hidden in the mountains. This fusion of wild nature and human warmth excites the senses and ignites curiosity. The restaurant’s artistic design invites guests into an Eastern reverie, where tranquility and connection with nature flourish.
Tiled floors evoke green fields, while crisp white walls glow with strokes of amber light. The open layout fosters exploration, with layered facades rising like distant peaks, leading diners through a poetic journey of renewal.
The Essence of Form: A Feast of the East
The dining area flows with the rhythm of undulating waves, where curvilinear structures mimic the sea’s motion. Soft light filters through, casting dynamic shadows on textured surfaces. Tiered seating offers privacy and depth, creating intimate and communal settings alike.
Hidden corridors lead to private rooms adorned in deep green tones, symbolizing vitality and elegance. Asymmetry and contrast redefine traditional form, with undulating walls and intersecting lines expanding spatial perception. Monumental jade-green marble partitions rise with grandeur, while a gilded ceiling contrasts boldly, weaving light, color, and shadow into a mesmerizing composition.
Framing mountains and seas as art, the design captures fleeting romance in an atmosphere of balance and tranquility. Through FUNUN LAB’s modern lens, traditional Eastern culture takes on a new fluidity—rooted in heritage, yet dynamically evolving.
As dining spaces continue to shift, this project reveals the singular charm of Eastern aesthetics, where the wisdom of nature and the spirit of innovation harmonize into an unforgettable experience.
