  • When second-generation restaurateur Edoardo Baldi opened Baldi at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, the vision was clear: to create an Italian steakhouse rooted in ritual, hospitality and enduring craft. Located on the terrace of the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills in Los Angeles, this space is not a literal recreation of Tuscany, yet its spirit is unmistakable.

Baldi is envisioned as an Italian steakhouse shaped by the culture of Italian hospitality and dining ritual. The design draws from the warmth, craftsmanship and shared table traditions associated with Italy. The emphasis on terracotta hues, natural materials and layered intimacy reflects this foundation.

Wood plays a defining architectural role. Slatted partitions and latticed screens introduce rhythm and permeability, allowing guests to see through spaces without full exposure. This filtered openness creates discretion without isolation, a balance that feels particularly attuned to Beverly Hills, social yet private, vibrant yet composed. Terraces and semi-enclosed pods embrace the Southern California climate while preserving atmosphere. The result is elegant yet relaxed, refined yet welcoming. Greenery, including sculptural olive trees, reinforces the Mediterranean sensibility. Foliage softens the architectural language and deepens sightlines, bringing organic life into a carefully composed environment.

The material palette was selected for authenticity, tactility and longevity. Oak and walnut woods introduce warmth and structure. Natural stone and richly veined marble add permanence and refinement. Supple leathers and woven textiles temper the composition, ensuring the space feels intimate rather than monumental. Lighting further amplifies this atmosphere. Custom fixtures composed of suspended forms and woven textures cast a soft glow across surfaces, creating subtle shadow and depth. The interplay between light and material strengthens the emotional character of the space, intimate at the table yet luminous throughout.

The floor designed in the refined Herringbone format, the flooring introduces architectural structure through geometry. Its disciplined rhythm orders the space, guides movement and adds subtle texture to light and shadow. In a hospitality setting where flow and atmosphere matter equally, herringbone provides both visual direction and timeless elegance.

Baldi does not replicate the past. Instead, it interprets the essence of Italian hospitality through a contemporary lens. Craft is expressed in proportion, texture and detail. The space feels timeless yet modern, intimate yet expansive.
