  • With the opening of The Landmark Nicosia, Autograph Collection, a long-standing symbol of the city reclaims its role as a place of encounter, reconnecting communities and histories. Developed in close working partnership with MHV GROUP and now part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, the hotel marks a significant moment for Nicosia and Cyprus, both architecturally and culturally.

The design is shaped by ‘The Do’s of the Diplomat,’ a narrative inspired by the building’s diplomatic past and Cyprus’ layered cultural influences, expressed through a refined and contemporary spatial language.

The Grand Room serves as the heart of the hotel. With a nod to British high tea culture, it unfolds as a sequence of smaller drawing rooms, each offering a distinct atmosphere for conversation, reading, or quiet observation. Custom carpets, developed with traditional motifs, subtly guide movement through the space.

Material choices anchor the design locally. Limestone columns, warm sandstone tones, and terrazzo floors reinterpreting Venetian patterns, along with architectural elements inspired by Cypriot weaving and the Pomos figurine (a cultural symbol), create a tactile, grounded environment.

Colour palettes draw inspiration from Ottoman houses and Mediterranean gardens, while porticos reintroduce classic outdoor typologies for al fresco moments throughout the day.

Signature elements shape the guest journey. The Magic Box, reinterpreting a display of diplomatic gifts, serves as a symbolic point of arrival, while a bespoke deck of cards introduces guests playfully to the hotel. The welcoming ceremony with rose water further reinforces a sense of ritual and hospitality.

The interiors are composed as a sequence of interconnected moments, encouraging discovery and exchange, and creating a continuous narrative throughout the hotel.

From its 1960s origins through decades of political, diplomatic and social relevance, the building has always been more than a hotel. Our ambition was to help restore its role as a setting for daily rituals and meaningful moments, while anchoring the building within the everyday life of Nicosia.

During the recent informal gathering of EU Heads of State in Cyprus, The Landmark Nicosia, Autograph Collection, welcomed leaders and their delegations, continuing a long-standing role in hosting moments of international significance. From business meetings and diplomatic affairs to weddings and informal gatherings, this is precisely why The Landmark Nicosia belongs to the Autograph Collection: for its singular history, its cultural depth, and its ability to express character through design and savoir-faire.
