Voyager Craft Coffee – St John
Studio BANAA transformed Voyager Craft Coffee in San Jose from a former seafood restaurant into a vibrant micro-café, celebrating coffee culture through bold design inspired by Matisse and 1980s Memphis aesthetics.
Voyager’s sixth location in San Jose continues the brand’s commitment to creating destinations that feel anything but ordinary. Taking over a compact 1,000-square-foot former seafood restaurant, Studio BANAA transformed the space into a vibrant micro-café inspired by Matisse’s paper cut-outs and the bold geometry of 1980s Italian Memphis design. Every surface —walls, floor, ceiling, and counter — was treated as part of a single connected canvas.
At the heart of the space, a sculptural coffee bar clad in pink perforated metal organizes the flow of customers and staff while concealing the compact back-of-house. Curved elements repeat throughout in the lighting, wall trims, and furnishings, helping the small footprint feel open and inviting. Two custom murals, inspired by topographic maps of Brazil and Ethiopia, celebrate the origins of Voyager’s premium coffee beans and invite visitors to travel through taste and place.
