  • The redesign of the Hôtel Costes Spa by Liaigre transforms a 1,000-square-metre subterranean wellness complex into a serene sanctuary where architecture, light, and materiality converge to create an immersive experience of calm. Conceived in collaboration with Augustinus Bader, the project reinterprets luxury wellness through a restrained design language rooted in timeless elegance, refined craftsmanship, and sensory comfort.

The design centres on the idea of creating a complete separation from the outside world. Softened geometries replace sharp angles throughout the interiors, with rounded walls, seamless transitions, and carefully sculpted forms fostering a sense of ease and protection. A warm, tonal palette of travertine, smoked oak, lacquer, white marble, and liquid ambar establishes visual continuity with the rest of Hôtel Costes while reinforcing Liaigre’s signature approach to understated luxury.

At the heart of the spa is a 20-metre heated swimming pool with oxygen-enriched water, conceived as both a functional lap pool and a contemplative focal point. Lagoon-toned mosaics, a geometric coffered ceiling, and bespoke lighting create a tranquil atmosphere, while treatment rooms open directly onto the pool through lacquered doors that strengthen the architectural rhythm of the space. Eight treatment rooms, each accessed through a private antechamber, prioritise discretion, comfort, and an uninterrupted wellness journey.

Lighting and sensory design play a defining role in shaping the visitor experience. Developed in collaboration with lighting designer Arnold Chan, the illumination emerges subtly from the floor, guiding guests through a carefully orchestrated sequence of moods. Immersive Dolby Atmos sound and a bespoke signature fragrance further enhance the spa’s cocoon-like atmosphere, transforming each visit into a ritual of relaxation and regeneration.

By combining noble materials, bespoke craftsmanship, and a holistic approach to wellness, the project extends Liaigre’s long-standing collaboration with Hôtel Costes while creating a contemporary sanctuary that balances architectural precision with emotional warmth. The result is a timeless environment where design supports both physical wellbeing and a profound sense of tranquillity.
