  • AutoCamp tapped Santa Barbara–based Anacapa Architecture and San Francisco’s Geremia Design to collaborate on the design of their new Yosemite property. Blending outdoor experience with the service and design of a boutique hotel, the property is nestled on 35 acres in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and features a 4,000 square foot clubhouse with reception, meeting space, indoor/outdoor lounge areas, and a curated marketplace offering artisanal food and beverages. The clubhouse includes a scenic roof deck, perfect for stargazing, and an outdoor swimming pool. Accommodations include 81 deluxe Airstream trailers, custom designed by Anacapa and Geremia and built by Airstream, Inc., 15 luxury tents, three cabin suites and, two Classic Cabin Suites, five Basecamp Suites, and five ADA suites designed by Los Angeles’s M-Rad Architecture.

With the iconic Airstream as starting point, the Anacapa team developed an architectural language to complement the classic, modern and timeless style of the trailer, inspired by midcentury masters. The resulting clean, rectilinear planes of the Clubhouse contrast the surrounding landscape and set the tone for the polished rural retreat. For the interiors, Geremia eschewed campy camp tropes, instead taking cues for the material palate from the spectacular environs, mixing sophisticated contemporary lines with rough-hewn materials. A specialty light installation by Brendan Ravenhill illuminates the marketplace. Large-scale, low-slung seating areas with deep sofas, fire pits and monumental wood benches are skillfully situated throughout the clubhouse, showcasing striking views of the natural surroundings and encouraging a communal experience that honors the spirit and tradition of camping.

Accommodations are outfitted with Coyuchi sheets and handmade Chilean textiles by Treko. Customized concrete moon sculptures from New York-based artist Bronsen hang prominently in each Airstream, along with historic photography of Yosemite Valley. Each unit features an outdoor fire pit by Stahl Firepits and bespoke outdoor seating by Amigo Modern.

Anacapa led architectural design of the site, Clubhouse, custom Airstreams, luxury tents, Basecamp suites and Classic Cabin suites and Geremia oversaw the interiors and appointed the grounds with site-specific art installations, including an infographic art piece by lighting designer Rosie Li.
