Gaia Restaurant
Drummond Projects’ Gaia Restaurant in Washington DC entwines a mythological essence with its rich materials and ambient lighting, creating an abstract primordial environment that celebrates the Earth and inspires natural beauty.
A materially rich palette sweeps throughout the 6,000 sf eatery – rock textured wall coverings, plastered walls, modular terraced sofas and undulating and curved banquettes support the mythological theme of the DC-based restaurant, GAIA, named after the Greek goddess of the Earth. An abstract primordial environment is conveyed through a selection of charcoal tones, rock like formations and foliage to usher in a natural sense of beauty. Moody, ambient light is cast through the recessed ceiling over dining strips that stretch above to delineate the dropped ceilings. The interplay of speckled lights throughout impresses upon us, a celestial night-time sky.
