Mövenpick Resort & SPA Karpacz
Designed by MIXD, the Mövenpick Resort & SPA in Karpacz seamlessly integrates modern hospitality with local traditions, showcasing natural materials that reflect the stunning mountain landscape and creating an elegant, serene retreat.
The Mövenpick brand has made its debut in Poland with a resort-style hotel in Karpacz, reflecting its Swiss heritage. Designed by MIXD studio, the five-star hotel harmonizes modern hospitality with mountain nature and local traditions. The interior features muted colors, rough stone, wood, and natural fabrics, creating a serene atmosphere of understated elegance.
Karpacz, located at the foot of Śnieżka, has a rich history dating back to the 12th century when it was established as a gold prospectors’ settlement. Over time, it evolved with silver and lead mining, but its true wealth emerged during the Thirty Years’ War when religious refugees began cultivating herbs for medicinal purposes. Although the popularity of local herbal medicine declined in the 19th century due to the rise of chemical pharmaceuticals, Karpacz became known for its stunning landscapes, mountain trails, and a climate ideal for relaxation and winter sports. While it never officially gained health resort status, it remains a prominent tourist destination with a variety of sanatorium and spa services.
The Mövenpick hotel emphasizes adapting to its surroundings, blending architecture and interior design with the local environment. Piotr Kalinowski, CEO of MIXD, highlights the goal of creating a cozy retreat that complements the breathtaking mountain scenery. Guests can enjoy views of ski runs, forests, and an outdoor pool from the hotel.
The design incorporates natural materials and colors inspired by the mountains, such as deep greens and rich wood tones, fostering a tranquil and elegant ambiance. Daylight enhances the textures of the materials, while evening lighting creates a warm, inviting atmosphere reminiscent of a fireplace. The circular motifs throughout the hotel, including backlit screens and mirrors, evoke a sense of harmony and connection to nature.
The hotel bar features a striking installation of metal chains that symbolize the mountainous terrain of Karpacz, while flowing motifs on carpets and wallpaper reflect the region’s landscapes. Eco-friendly materials, such as clay plaster and custom resin-topped furniture, further emphasize the hotel’s commitment to sustainability and local heritage.
The resort comprises two buildings with 126 rooms and apartments, a restaurant, a lobby bar, a conference hall, and an extensive spa and wellness area. Guests can enjoy various amenities for active recreation, with easy access to ski slopes in winter and biking and hiking trails in summer. The Polanka restaurant offers regional dishes alongside Mövenpick’s signature chocolate and ice cream, making it an ideal destination for a weekend getaway.
